April 30, 2024, St. Petersburg, FL—Water Tower Research LLC (www.watertowerresearch.com), a private firm providing research content and research-driven investor relations services announces the election of John MacCarthy and recognizes the retirement of Dana Hayes, Jr. from the company’s Board of Managers.  

Dan Bukowski, Water Tower Board Chair, commented on the changes.

John’s experience as a senior advisor to public and private companies will be instrumental to Water Tower Research during plans for continued growth,” Bukowski said.

In addition to this new appointment on the Board of Water Tower Research, MacCarthy also serves on the Boards of the Nuveen Global Cities Real Estate Investment Trust, The Idaho Chapter of the Nature Conservancy and Metropolitan Family Services in Chicago.  He previously served on the Boards of Healthwell Acquisition Corp. I (NASDAQ: HWEL), Nuveen Global Investors UCITS Fund Complex, certain Nuveen alternative investment advisors, The Renaissance Society at the University of Chicago, and the Illinois Chapter of the Nature Conservancy. He previously chaired the Boards of Nuveen Global Investors and Metropolitan Family Services.

An executive at Nuveen (NYSE: JNC) for 14 years, a TIAA financial services company with over $1 trillion of assets under management, MacCarthy was General Counsel from 2006 until 2014 and part of the team that took Nureen private in 2007 and sold Nuveen to TIAA in 2014. After TIAA’s acquisition of Nuveen, he served as the Chief Operating Officer of a group of Nuveen alternative investment advisors as well as Chief Legal Officer responsible for Legal, Compliance and Regulatory Affairs. Prior to Nuveen, he was a partner at the global law firm Winston & Strawn where he led the firm’s Corporate Department.

MacCarthy received his law degree from Stanford Law School in 1985 and his undergraduate degree from Williams College in 1982.
